So far, I've discovered that "PLII" Movie mode is the best for me as far as "Set it and forget it" is concerned, as I like what it does to the sound, and I like having upmixing on all non-surround content, which is quite nice.I have an STR DH590 and leave mine on Direct all the time. Surround movies or shows play in 5.1 and music plays in stereo(also utilizing the subwoofer). If you're playing TV shows which are in stereo and you want to still use the rest of your speakers, my go to is Pro Logic Movie.The Sony auto calibration will usually nail the distances and the level settings for the LCR and surrounds. The EQ not so much. I almost always have to adjust either the level setting on the subwoofer or the eq tone control on the bass or both. Audio also, with separation giving a fantastic sound-field - although I did have to raise the volume a little on my ceiling speakers.
